As an Academic Coordinator at Sing Sing Correctional Facility, Jose serves multiple roles, including registrar, financial aid coordinator, administrator, dean, and life coach for nearly 225 students. He sees himself as the face of Hudson Link, providing hope, mentoring, and guidance to those inside while advocating for their needs to the outside world. Before joining Hudson Link in 2022, Jose earned his associate degree from SUNY Sullivan and his Bachelor of Science in Social Sciences from St. Thomas Aquinas College, both through Hudson Link's education program. He also worked for over five years as an assistant academic coordinator (clerk) while incarcerated at Sullivan Correctional Facility, where he supported students with pre-college math and tutoring.
“Whenever you feel down and out and feel like you have hit rock bottom, smile and look on the bright side.”
While in prison, Jose was mocked for drinking the tap water, which he claimed was preparing him for drinking the water in Mexico. However, after experiencing ocean water in Mexico, he advised against drinking it.
