In a recent endeavor that highlights the global reach and influence of Hudson Link for Higher Education in Prison, alumnus Kareem B. and Leon D. embarked on a historic journey to Berlin, Germany. This trip was a significant milestone, as they, alongside Dr. Richard A. McKay, presented their research on the prejudices and stigmas embedded within carceral records at the Living Knowledge: Ethics, Practice, and Community in Multimodal History Workshop.
Hosted by the prestigious Max Planck Institute for the History of Science (MPIWG) from September 24th to 26th, the three-day workshop gathered international scholars and community organizations to reflect on their completed or ongoing research in multimodal history. Hudson Link proudly supported Kareem's and Leon's participation, co-sponsoring their travel and accommodations alongside the Max Planck Institute.
Among the many sessions that stood out, Kareem's and Leon's echoed the importance of including voices directly impacted by incarceration in academic and community dialogues. Their presence at the workshop exemplified how community-centered research can be conducted in an inclusive and non-extractive manner, ultimately strengthening the collective understanding of mass incarceration.
Hudson Link is proud to support their involvement, recognizing that Kareem's and Leon's contributions go beyond this workshop. Their work fosters personal and professional growth, setting them up as changemakers poised to make a lasting impact in the world. Their journey to Berlin is a testament to the transformative power of education and the critical role of inclusive dialogue in addressing systemic issues.
