Hudson Link’s College Preparatory School helps to prepare students for the challenges and rigors of attending college classes.
In order to be eligible to enroll in a Hudson Link college program, students must have either a high school diploma or GED, and pass a college placement exam. However, many of our new students are unprepared to do college level work and therefore struggle during their first semesters in college.
To address this issue and improve the college experience for our students, Hudson Link started a College Preparatory School at Sing Sing Correctional Facility. The School is an intensive one-year, six course program, with classes offered Monday through Friday in the afternoons. The curriculum is focused on remedial Math and English, Sociology, History, Current Events, study skills and time management. This program is now being offered at all of our partner correctional facilities.
All of the program’s professors are volunteers and Hudson Link college graduates function as mentors, tutors and exam proctors. At the end of the one-year program, students are eligible to take a placement exam to assess their college readiness.
In collaboration with accredited institutions of higher learning, Hudson Link’s college program is the core of our endeavors. Partnering with Columbia University, Columbia-Greene Community College, Marymount Manhattan College, Mercy College, St. Thomas Aquinas College, SUNY Sullivan, Ulster Community College, and Vassar College. Hudson Link also sponsors Associate’s and Bachelor’s degrees in Behavioral Science, Liberal Arts and Organizational Management.
Hudson Link established its College Completion Program to provide students who have been released from prison prior to finishing school an opportunity to fulfill their degree requirements. Hudson Link On Campus provides students with options for continuing their education at various on-campus locations throughout New York State.
In order to ensure a successful transition to life after incarceration, Hudson Link partners with reentry and community organizations to provide supportive services for our alumni. Hudson Link’s Alumni Office also offers job readiness skills including resume writing, job search assistance, interview attire, laptops and computer training, professional mentoring and internship opportunities.
